History of Shirehill Farm

Shirehill Farm has been in the Pullin family since 1919.

Over the past century Shirehill Farm has seen its fair share of farming activity, including a mixed rotation of vegtable plantations through to beef fattening. The farm has first hand experience of the dramatic advances in technology. Much of the old equipment can be found around the farm, and gives an insight into how the farm has changed. Some equipment was lost in the 1980s, when a large fire broke out in the dutch barn (point xx on the map). The fire caused considerable damage to equipment and the crop .Fortunately nobody was injured in the incident, which was suspected arson. Nowadays the farm is largely tenanted to a local dairy farmer and beef fattening farmer, who you might see on your visit.

Shirehill Farm also has close ties with the Badminton estate since 2005, which you can see at Point xxxx on the map. This cover crop is designed to provide the game birds with suitable breeding and feeding grounds. Nowadays the farm is home to 30 chickens, 5 ducks, a barn owl, a large number of bats, 1 cat and Holly (the Springer Spainiel) ! All of which you are likely to see around the farm!
